Monday Minutes

  1. The North Korean kangaroo court has sentenced two American journalists, Laura Ling and Euna Lee, to 12 years hard labour. So are we hanging these Americans out to dry or what? Whatever happened to leave no one behind? How long are we going to play these games with North Korea? It is beyond sad to see Americans (presumably) siding with North Korea against two fellow Americans in the comments on the story linked above. One commenter goes so far as to compare the plight of these women to Gitmo because you know, reporting on the trafficking of women in a repressive regime is no different from being picked up on a battle field or village somewhere for trying to kill people and the US is no better than North Korea. CNN has more on the story here.

  2. I would like to think that security hasn't been officially beefed up at military recruiting offices around the country after the murder of an army recruiter last week because our Attorney General thinks our military is bad ass enough to not need it. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

  3. Newsweek did a big front page spread on Oprah recently. Apparently some people are beginning to wise up to the fact that the Great and Wonderful Oprah isn't all that wise. Others still refuse to look behind the curtain to see what's really there. Bad Astronomy has a post about the article and the response from Oprah.

Comments

  1. I never thought her show was intended to show that she was wise, but she brings on people who are supposed to be wise about topics being discussed.

She is who she is and what she is and what she was able to do was tap into a "feeling" or a "lack of fulfillment" that others were not able to reach, and she has gotten extremely wealthy as a result.

  2. She's become the person who opens the door for the idiot who's going to yell fire in the crowded theater and gives them access to the PA system. That kind of stuff can not go unremarked upon.
