Nope, not from Philly but I have visited. I heard an interview with a linguist on NPR some time back who pointed out that accents in the North and especially the North East were heavily influenced by immigrants speaking accented English. I couldn't find the link to that story but I did find this, American Accent Undergoing Great Vowel Shift.
